Mantras for Better Living
Broadening formeditators to talk about ideas/experiments for better living
I have been talking to lots of folks about Meditation in the last few months. I have written a flew blogs, a micro-book, designed a course, posted meditations on YouTube, taught in-person classes.
I walked away with a few key learnings.
TLDR; Meditation stresses people out! People just want bite-sized pieces of practices/ideas that can make their lives better and Meditation is not that!
Meditation, the word stresses people out. Everyone knows it is a good thing. They should do it. But they don’t. Completely ironic that something that should make their lives less stressful is causing more stress.
People don’t have time for themselves. Sitting for an hour is out of question. Sitting for a few minutes is all they can afford.
People really consume in small bite-sized pieces and ideally visually or done over a short form instagram post.
90% of the population is just looking for a few moments of peace in their lives. Not for a meditation practice.
People who look for meditation practice are already served by various Gurus. Serving this crowd requires you to have a full fledged social media team to be visible. Become a meditation influencer—lots of money in it (I just saw a famous Indian Guru flying in a private jet while espousing detachment.)
Where does that take me as a writer…
Meditation social media influencer isn’t a career path for me.
I want to write about meditation, wellness and health because I love these topics. I am a continuous learner and enjoy picking new things up and sharing what resonates—mostly as a note to myself and others like me.
So starting next week, I am moving formeditators to “MantrasForBetterLiving” — focus will be ideas, practices and intuitions that resonated with me and can make the readers life better. Not so much as dedicated articles and practices about meditation.
